What's happening on Earth Day in Calgary from Calgary Fun Magazine:
Green Calgary is once again selling its rain barrels and composters throughout the city. Over the years, they’ve sold thousands–which means that Calgarians have collected millions of litres of rainwater to use in their gardens and literally tonnes of organic waste has been broken down into healthy food for plants! From April until June, Green Calgary will be selling their rain barrels and composters at locations across the city. To find out where and when they will be, please see the Green Calgary page. As these often sell out quickly, you can also make a purchase through their website. All proceeds from the sales go back into local environmental initiatives. The Calgary Zoo wants Calgarians to recycle their electronics rather than placing it in the garbage where it goes into a landfill. By encouraging people to safely recycle their electronics, the Calgary Zoo wishes to highlight the Earth Day theme that doing something small to help the environment can have a big impact. From April 20 – 22, 2018, people can bring in desktop computers, laptops, printers, televisions, and cell phones to the Zoo’s north parking lot from 9 am – 4 pm to the drop-off location in the Lion Lot. A 30 minute grace period for parking will be in effect so people can drop off their items. The Zoo will receive a small fee for the e-waste items which will be re-invested into its conservation and sustainability programs. West Coast Kids is offering a place to recycle those old car seats and keep them out of the landfills. See here for more information. If you want to diaper your baby using environmentally friendly cloth diapers but don’t know how to begin, then come out to the Great Cloth Diaper Exchange! The Calgary event is part of a global network of such events that are held every year as part of Earth Day. This year’s local change will take place at Mount Pleasant Community Hall, located at 602 22nd Avenue NW, Calgary, AB. There will be information stalls and experts will be on hand to answer all your questions. At 11:45 there will be a FREE workshop, “Cloth Diaper 101” and no registration is necessary.
